Item No: 07D Meeting Date: July 27, 2015 Type of Business: Council Business Administrator Review: ____ City of Mounds View Staff Report To: Honorable Mayor and City Council From: Don Peterson, Public Works Supervisor Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8437 Approve the Remodel of the Community Center Offices and Prep Kitchen Introduction: The City Council is asked to accepting two proposals for remodeling the Community Center Offices, and expanding the current cooler room (A120 and A102) to turn the space into a prep kitchen. Background: The City of Mounds View has an agreement with the YMCA to run the City of Mounds View Park and Recreation programs and the community center. In this agreement it also states in Exhibit lll: Duties and responsibilities of the City (section 4) The City will adopt a budget and a 5 year capital improvement plan for the community center on or before December 31 for the subsequent year. In addition, work with YMCA to develop and implement the capital improvement plan for the subsequent year. Public Works staff has met with the YMCA staff members regarding building alterations for the community center. After meeting with Public Works, staff contacted a contractor to receive budget estimates to present to the YMCA advisory committee to gain input and further direction. At this meeting it was decided that the building alterations should be brought to the City Council for further direction. The City Council directed staff to move forward and obtain quotes for the mentioned work. Staff received the quotes from RAK Construction, Inc of East Bethel MN. Discussion: Staff had been working for several months to acquire quotes for this remodel project. Staff became aware that construction was now included as part of the National Joint Powers Alliance (NJPA), the City of Mounds View is a member of NJPA #5659. Staff contacted the proper consultants and walked through the project with representatives of NJPA and RAK Construction. The City received the following quotes for the remodel: The following is a breakdown of the projects being proposed in the community center; • Expand the cooler room (A120 and A102) into one room. The room would be turned into a large prep room kitchen for the banquet center. Cost for this remodel $28,220.80 • Remodel the main office area and room B101. Move the event coordinator into the main office, currently being used by the YMCA Program director. Add two hard shell offices in the main office area. Expand two office areas and make one large conference room. Cost for this remodel $14,417.05
