<br />Item No: 07D <br />Meeting Date: October 26, 2015 <br />Type of Business: Council Business <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: James Ericson, City Administrator <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8466, Approving Revisions to the Planning <br />Associate Job Description and Authorizing the Advertisement <br />of the Planner Position <br />Introduction: <br /> Planning Associate Heidi Heller has submitted her resignation; her last day with Mounds <br />View will be October 30, 2015. Staff has suggested revisions to the job description and <br />requests the Council consider the revised description along with the authority to advertise <br />the vacated position. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> As with any position vacancy, we want to examine the core duties being conducted and <br />determine whether the position is needed or if there may be opportunities for restructuring <br />the position. In my opinion, the position is needed, however the position description could <br />be revised to better reflect current responsibilities. I have attached a red-lined version of <br />the position description and would ask that the Council review the proposed changes. I do <br />not believe that the proposed revisions alter the essential nature of the position to the <br />extent to justify a compensation study, but the Council may feel differently. <br /> Assuming no compensation study is needed for the revised position, the advertisement <br />would go live on the City’s website and the League of MN Cities website the week of <br />October 26th, with an ad run in the StarTribune on November 1, 2015. Applications would <br />be accepted through the month of November. Assuming enough qualified applications are <br />submitted for consideration, we would rank the candidates and set up interviews. Given <br />how close we may be to the Christmas holiday, interviews may need to be delayed until <br />after January 1, 2016. Best case scenario, I would not foresee anyone starting until later in <br />January.
