Item No: 7F <br /> Meeting Date: November 23, 2015 <br />Type of Business: Council Business <br />Administrator Review: ____ <br /> <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Don Peterson, Public Works Supervisor <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8481 Authorizing the Purchase of a V-Panel Aluminum <br />Shoring/Trench Box <br />Introduction: <br />One of the responsibilities the Public Works Department is to repair water main breaks which <br />require excavation in the street or the Right of Way (ROW ). <br /> <br />Background/Discussion: <br />As more and more utilities are placed underground in the street and in the ROW , excavating to <br />place a standard trench box is increasingly more difficult as standard trench box has sides that <br />are rigid and placement is limited. <br /> <br />The V-Panel shoring/trench box has individual panels that can be raised allowing the box to be <br />lowered into the trench around other utilities; work can commence without removing or cutting <br />the existing utilities. The V-Panel box, because of its design, will help to reduce the size of the <br />excavation area and provide for a safer work environment for the Public Works staff. <br /> <br />Staff received several quotes for the V-Panel Aluminum Shoring Trench Box from the following <br />vendors, with the low quote being from Kundel Industries of Vienna, Ohio. <br /> <br />1. Kundel Industries $8,414.71 plus freight of $389.93 for a total of $8,804.64 <br />2. Heckmann Sales $8,905.00 plus freight of $550.00 for a total of $9,455.00 <br />3. North East Shoring $9,177.00 plus freight of $495.00 for a total of $9,672.00 <br />4. USA Blue Book $12,228.80 plus freight of $396.66 for a total of $12,625.46 <br />
