Item 06A <br />Arbor Day Proclamation <br />April 14, 2014 <br />CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW <br />OFFICE OF THE MAYOR <br />-4 <br />WHEREAS, Arbor Day was first observed in 1872 with the planting of more than a million <br />trees in Nebraska and is now observed throughout the nation and the world; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Mounds View has been recognized for 32 consecutive years as a <br />Tree City USA Community by the National Arbor Day Foundation for its commitment to <br />urban forestry; and <br />WHEREAS, trees in our city beautify our surroundings, increase property values, shade <br />our parks and residences, reduce storm water runoff, reduce energy use, enhance the <br />economic vitality of business areas and promote healthier communities; and <br />WHEREAS, Public Works will be planting a variety of shade trees in various City parks on <br />April 25th, 2014. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, Joe Flaherty, Mayor of the City of Mounds View, do hereby <br />proclaim Friday, April 25th, 2014 as <br />"ARBOR DAY" <br />in the City of Mounds View, and I urge all citizens to celebrate Arbor Day and support <br />efforts to protect our trees and woodlands, including planting trees to promote the well- <br />being of this and future generations. <br />Given under my hand and Seal of the City of Mounds View, this 14th day of April, 2014. <br />(SEAL) <br />Joe Flaherty, Mayor <br />
