Item No: 04
k' _ Meeting Date: March 3, 2014
M®T TjT S I VIE A T Type of Business: Work Session
lAdministrator Review: A'6_1
City of Mounds View Staff Report
To: Honorable Mayor and City Council
From: Desaree Crane, Assistant City Administrator
Item Title/Subject: Public Works Project Coordinator
Introduction:
At the February Work Session and the February 10th City Council Meeting, a new position
was discussed for the Public Work Department. The City Council received a position
description (attached) for a "Project Coordinator." This proposed position would work
directly with the Director of Public Works on capital improvements and public works
construction projects. The Project Coordinator would be responsible for the day-to-day
coordination of assigned projects, ensuring that work is completed on time and in
compliance with standards. This position would work closely with the Director of Public
Works and provide regular project updates. At the February 10th City Council Meeting, it
was the consensus of the City Council to move forward in completing a compensation
analysis on the position.
Discussion:
Staff submitted the draft Project Coordinator job description to Springsted, Inc., and
requested them to do a HAY point and salary compensation analysis. Attached is
Springsted's report. Springsted recommends that the Project Coordinator be assigned 291
HAY points, based on the position's comparability to the Planning Associate position, which
is also at 291 HAY Points. It is the recommendation of Springsted to assign the Project
Coordinator position with a pay range identical to the Planning Associate with a minimum
rate of $50,365/year and a maximum rate of $62,956/year.
Recommendation:
Please review the attachments and Staff will answer any questions that the City Council
may have. If there is consensus of the City Council to move forward with approving the job
description and pay range, then Staff will place this on the March 10, 2014, City Council
Agenda for approval.
Respectfully submitted, .
Desaree Crane
