Item No: 7E <br />Meeting Date: September 22, 2014 <br />Type of Business: CB <br />Administrator Review: ____ <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br /> <br />From: Desaree Crane, Assistant City Administrator <br /> <br /> <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 8307, Approving the Hire of Brian Beeman to <br />the Position of Business Development Coordinator in <br />the Community Development Department <br /> <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br />On February 10, 2014, the City Council approved Resolution 8212, approving the job <br />description, salary compensation, and authorized Staff to advertise for the part-time <br />Business Development Coordinator. The City advertised for the position, and received over <br />10 applications. <br /> <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br />Staff advertised the opening on the City’s website, Star Tribune, and the League of <br />Minnesota Cities website. Staff received over ten (10) applications, and interviewed six (6) <br />qualified candidates. Second interviews were then conducted on the top three (3) <br />candidates. It was the consensus of Staff to recommend Brian Beeman to the position of <br />part-time Business Development Coordinator. <br /> <br />Mr. Beeman has two (2) Bachelors degree in Business Management and Legal Studies. <br />He also has a Masters Degree in Public Administration and has worked for the City of Elk <br />River as the Director of Economic Development. Mr. Beeman, if hired, would start at Step 4 <br />of the Pay Scale at $30.91/hour; with an increase to Step 5 of the salary range (currently <br />$32.54/hour) after one year of employment. All increases are subject to a satisfactory <br />performance evaluation. All other City benefits and personnel policies will apply as stated in <br />the Mounds View Personnel Manual. <br /> <br />Reference, criminal background, and driver license checks are currently being conducted. <br />Mr. Beeman’s appointment would be contingent on satisfactory reference, criminal <br />background, and driver license checks. <br /> <br />Mr. Beeman would begin employment on or about September 29, 2014. <br /> <br />This is a non-union position. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
