Mounds View City Council July 28, 2014 <br />Regular Meeting Page 10 <br /> <br /> 1 <br />City Attorney Riggs reported that many of the new tobacco code amendments were being written 2 <br />into law to address the growing concern of synthetics. He explained that provision J would 3 <br />address these concerns. He suggested the Council review this further in a work session prior to 4 <br />approving the Ordinance. 5 <br /> 6 <br />Mayor Flaherty agreed with this recommendation as he wanted to ensure that all businesses in 7 <br />Mounds View were being treated equally with regards to signage and code enforcement. 8 <br /> 9 <br />Council Member Gunn discussed how the tobacco establishments differed throughout the City 10 <br />and wanted to see the proposed Code amendment address each of these unique businesses. She 11 <br />recommended that tobacco license holders be invited to the worksession meeting. 12 <br /> 13 <br />MOTION/SECOND: Flaherty/Meehlhause. To Postpone action on this item to the September 14 <br />worksession meeting. 15 <br /> 16 <br /> Ayes – 5 Nays – 0 Motion carried. 17 <br /> 18 <br />F. Resolution 8282, Approving a Revised Job Description and Authorizing to 19 <br />Advertise for the Police Support Specialist Position. 20 <br /> 21 <br />Police Chief Kinney requested the Council approve a revised job description for the Police 22 <br />Support Specialist and authorize the advertisement for this position. He described the duties that 23 <br />would be completed by this full-time employee. He noted the Police Civil Service Commission 24 <br />met and recommended approval of the revised job description. It was his recommendation that 25 <br />the new employee be hired prior to Linda Myer’s departure. 26 <br /> 27 <br />Council Member Gunn asked how this position would be advertised. Police Chief Kinney 28 <br />commented the position would be posted on the City’s website and applications would be 29 <br />available at City Hall. In addition, the job would be posted on the League of Minnesota Cities 30 <br />website. 31 <br /> 32 <br />Mayor Flaherty questioned if this was a union position. Police Chief Kinney clarified that this 33 <br />was a non-union position. 34 <br /> 35 <br />MOTION/SECOND: Meehlhause/Hull.
