8 <br /> <br />School Resource Officer (SRO) Report <br /> <br />This fall, a change in the SRO assignment at Edgewood Middle School took place. Officer <br />Brian Schultes is now the full time School Resource Officer. <br /> <br />The SRO performs various duties on a daily basis at Edgewood Middle School which include <br />the following: <br />• assisting with traffic flow in front of the school, <br />• ensuring the school is secured each morning, <br />• providing a police presence in the hallways during passing times and in the cafeteria <br />during lunch times, <br />• investigating crimes that occur on school property, <br />• assisting patrol by performing follow-up on cases that involve students or school <br />property <br />• assisting with lock down, fire, and severe weather drills, <br />• serving as a member of the school crisis team, <br />• providing police support to school dances and after school activities, <br />• assisting at Pinewood Elementary as needed, <br />• being a liaison between the school and the police department, <br />• forming positive relationships with students, <br /> <br />Some additional services the SRO provided at the school this quarter included: <br />• Maintaining the school radio communications system <br />• Deescalating out of control students <br />• Contacting juvenile probation officers <br />• Operation of the school surveillance system <br />• Locating truant students <br />• Locating and recovering stolen bikes, electronics, and other property <br /> <br />In September, the SRO assisted with the following notable incidents: <br />• 1 theft report <br />• 1 medical <br />• 4 criminal damage to property reports <br />• 8 lost/recovered property reports <br />• 7 disorderly conduct/disruptive student incidents <br />• 4 student transports <br />• 1 truancy/custody dispute incident <br />• 2 driving complaints near school property <br /> <br />No juveniles were arrested or sent to diversion by the SRO. One juvenile was detained after <br />physically resisting the SRO and released to a parent. <br /> <br /> <br />Highlights from 3rd Quarter <br /> <br />• The SRO spent the first day of school welcoming new students and the incoming 6th <br />graders to Edgewood Middle School. He helped students with learning their locker <br />combinations and assisted with school tours.
