Additional Contract Changes Needed:
Since original adoption of the new contract in 1994 we have only amended it once; a change in 1996 to
reduce the number of trained volunteer firefighters from 80 to 60. This was done to reflect the trend
and current practice at the time.
Similarly, we need to change the contract to eliminate the word volunteer as we do have 60 trained
firefighters, but all are not volunteer with the addition of full time staff and city responders. We are also
cleaning up the mutual aid language in the contract as a recent state statutory change (Chapter 12)
provides the necessary liability provisions statewide for any mutual aid response.
These two changes are best described as technical in nature and we recommend adoption.
Fire Board:
At their October 24, 2013 meeting, the Board of Directors of the fire department adopted a motion to
authorize President Tim Hill to sign the amendment conditional upon all three cities also executing a
similar action.
