Mounds View City Council May 29, 2018 <br />Regular Meeting Page 7 <br />Public Works Director Peterson requested the Council approve the hire of Peter Szurek to the <br />position of Public Works Superintendent. He noted the City had seven applicants for this position <br />and three of the strongest candidates were interviewed. He reported staff was recommending the <br />hire of Peter Szurek noting he had previously worked for the City of Mounds View. <br />Council Member Meehlhause asked if vacation time was restored to returning employees. City <br />Administrator Zikmund reported the City’s human resources policy was not clear. <br />Mayor Mueller recommended the City’s Human Resources Committee investigate this further. <br />MOTION/SECOND: Gunn/Meehlhause. To Waive the Reading and Adopt Resolution 8969, <br />Approving the Hire of Peter Szurek to the Position of Public Works Superintendent. <br />Ayes – 5 Nays – 0 Motion carried. <br />H. Resolution 8971, Final Adoption of 2018 Council Priorities. <br />City Administrator Zikmund requested the Council adopt the final 2018 Council priorities. He <br />noted the Council has been working on these priorities since last November. He shared the <br />priorities with the public and recommended approval. <br />Mayor Mueller questioned if the 5G wireless network would be impacting the City of Mounds <br />View. City Planner/Supervisor Sevald commented the City has been contacted regarding this <br />new network and staff was aware of the changes coming. <br />MOTION/SECOND: Hull/Gunn. To Waive the Reading and Adopt Resolution 8971, Final <br />Adoption of 2018 Council Priorities. <br />Ayes – 5 Nays – 0 Motion carried. <br />I. Resolution 8975, Approving Future Maintenance of New Trail on Long Lake <br />Road in Coordination of Road Improvements by Ramsey County. <br />Public Works Director Peterson requested the Council approve future maintenance for the new <br />trail on Long Lake Road in coordination with road improvements being completed by Ramsey <br />County. He explained the County would be completing the trail but would like the City to accept <br />the future maintenance of the trail. He provided further comment on the bike routes that were <br />within the City of Mounds View noting this trail segment would provide a valuable connection <br />within the City. <br />Council Member Bergeron asked who would be responsible for replacing the trail in 20 or 30 <br />years. Public Works Director Peterson explained this would be the City’s responsibility within <br />the maintenance agreement.
