<br />Maintenance Worker (Drinking Water) Position Description <br />Page 3/4 <br />NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES <br />Knowledge of: <br /> Means, methods, and techniques for operating, maintaining, and repairing infrastructure. <br /> Equipment, materials, and supplies used in maintenance and minor repairs. <br /> Proper safety precautions related to all work performed. <br /> Safe handling and application of chemicals used in work and stored on site. <br /> Principles and practices of water supply, treatment, storage, and distribution. <br />Skill in: <br /> Operating a variety of tools and equipment commonly used for essential duties and responsibilities. <br /> Using computers and software programs, including Microsoft Office Suite and SCADA software. <br /> Assessing in-field conditions and problems and determining workable solutions to resolve them <br />with limited supervision. <br /> Keeping accurate records of time sheets, work assignments, inspection and maintenance activities, <br />correspondences, as-built information, and other data in hard copy and electronic formats. <br /> Reading maps, construction and as-built drawings, tie sheets, and sketches. <br />Ability to: <br /> Work on-call and participate in rotating standby duty schedule. <br /> Assume the duties and responsibilities of the Lead Utility Worker in his/her absence by operating <br />the wells, water treatment plants, and storage facilities to provide safe and reliable drinking water. <br /> Work independently or on a team and complete daily work tasks and multi-day project assignments <br />while meeting a work schedule. <br /> Perform difficult manual labor tasks including lifting heavy objects, stooping, bending, and twisting. <br /> Learn how to perform general, skilled, and semi-skilled tasks in a variety of construction and <br />maintenance activities. <br /> Learn to operate a variety of tools and equipment. <br /> Perform heavy manual tasks for extended periods. <br /> Purchase operating supplies and keep track of receipts for further processing. <br /> Make recommendations to supervisor on operating and maintenance matters involving personnel, <br />equipment, procedures, policies, etc. that will improve department functions. <br /> Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of <br />work, including co-workers, other departments, other agencies, vendors, and the public. <br /> Communicate effectively, in English, both verbally and in writing. <br /> <br />TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED <br /> Common industry motorized vehicles and equipment, including dump truck, pickup truck, utility <br />truck, skid steer, aebi tractors, tamper, plate compactor, saws, pumps, areole propane kettle, <br />compressors, sanders, generators, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, detection <br />devices, mobile radio, phone, ditch witch, computer. <br /> Specialized equipment including backhoe/loader, front-end loader, street sweeper, jetting/vacuum <br />truck, and underground utility televising equipment and accessories. <br />
