June 10, 2013 – City Council Meeting
Item 7B – Resolution 8110

In late April 2013, City staff requested quotes from nine sign vendors for another retrofit
and a new sign/base with a higher resolution LED display allowing for three lines of text.

Staff received quotes from five sign vendors.

Attached is a comparison spreadsheet of the five quotes received.

After meticulous comparison of the five quotes including ample correspondence with each
sign vendor, staff is recommending that the Council consider utilizing the services and
product offered by Signcrafters or Sign Source.

Signcrafters
The brand of signs quoted by Signcrafters is Watchfire, which is a different brand than the
current City Hall sign, which is Daktronics. The Signcrafters quote is the lowest bid of the
five quotes received. Signcrafters will be providing an updated quote using a Daktronics
message board, which will increase the amount of the quote; however City staff anticipates
the updated quote from Signcrafters to remain the lowest quote of the five quotes.

Sign Source
The brand of signs quoted by Sign Source is Daktronics, which is the same brand of the
current City Hall sign. The Sign Source quote is currently the third lowest bid of the five
quotes received.

Recommendation

Staff recommends that the City Council approve Resolution 8110, Authorizing the
Purchase of a New Electronic Message Sign for City Hall, from Signcrafters in the amount
of $45,850.00 or Sign Source in the amount of $57,140 to be paid for using the Special
Projects Fund 480-4180-7030.

Respectfully submitted,
Heidi Steinmetz, Economic Development Specialist

Attachment: Sign Quote Comparison Spreadsheet – April/May 2013
