5 <br /> <br />Crime Prevention/DARE <br /> <br />Spring was another busy quarter for the Crime Prevention Unit. Officer Keckeisen hosted a <br />very successful DARE graduation for over 100 5th graders from Pinewood Elementary <br />School. <br /> <br />Officer Keckeisen provided fire arms, taser, and control tactics training to three newly hired <br />Officers of the Mounds View Police Department. <br /> <br />To provide added safety for school aged children Officer Keckeisen, along with the Patrol <br />Division provided extra police presence at the cross walks of Edgewood, Sunnyside, and <br />Pinewood schools before and after school. <br /> <br />Officer Keckeisen conducted alcohol and tobacco compliance checks this past quarter. We <br />are happy to report that 100% compliance was achieved with all of the businesses licensed to <br />sell alcohol and tobacco successfully passing the compliance checks. <br /> <br />Officer Keckeisen continued to monitor monthly alarms reports to determine crime patterns <br />and to assign fines for repeating false alarms. Predatory offender monitoring, distribution of <br />the weekly crime summary reports and attendance at the property manager’s coalition <br />continues on a regular basis. <br /> <br /> <br />School Resource Officer (SRO) <br /> <br />The SRO performs various duties on a daily basis at Edgewood Middle School which include <br />the following: <br />• Assisting with traffic flow in front of the school, <br />• Ensuring the school is secured each morning, <br />• Providing a police presence in the hallways during passing times and in the cafeteria <br />during lunch times, <br />• Investigating crimes that occur on school property, <br />• Assisting with lock down, fire, and severe weather drills, <br />• Attending school dances and after school activities, <br />• Assisting at Pinewood Elementary, <br />• Being a liaison between the school and the police department, <br />• Forming positive relationships with students, parents, and school staff, <br />• Transporting students to and from the out of school suspension program <br /> <br />From April thru June, the SRO made the following incident reports: <br />• 5 disturbances <br />• 1 information to narcotics <br />• 1 assault <br />• 1 obstructing a police officer <br />• 1 assist to other agency <br />• 3 follow-ups for patrol/investigations <br /> <br />From those cases, 1 student was petitioned in court and 3 other juveniles could still face <br />petitions. <br />
