Res. 7890, Approving Bid Docs and Auth. Ad for Bids for 2012 Water Tower Reconditioning <br />January 23, 2012 <br />Page 2 <br />KLM estimates a 9-week construction schedule. In addition, existing telecommunication <br />companies with leases on the tower will need to remove and reinstall their equipment before <br />and after the City’s contractor’s work. The proposed project schedule is as follows: <br />Jan. 23, 2012 Council approves bid docs/authorizes advertisement <br />Feb. 2, 2012 Publish ad for bid in Sun-Focus & regional trade publications <br />Feb. 15, 2012 Pre-bid meeting with potential bidders (tentative) <br />Feb. 23, 2012 Bid opening <br />Mar. 12, 2012 Council awards construction contract to successful bidder <br />April-May, 2012 Begin construction <br />July 30, 2012* Complete construction <br />*A bid alternate will be included in the bid form to solicit prices for a delayed <br />schedule with a completion date of October 15, 2012 will be used for <br />comparison purposes to the earlier completion deadline. <br /> <br />The adopted 2012 Budget includes $700,000 under the Water Enterprise Fund (700-4823- <br />7050) for water tower reconditioning – down from the $800,000 budgeted in 2011. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br />Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the attached resolution approving the plans <br />and specifications and authorizing solicitation of public bids for the reconditioning of the <br />elevated water tower. <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Nick DeBar - Public Works Director <br /> <br />Attachment: <br /> Resolution 7890
