Mounds View City Council February 13, 2012 Regular Meeting Page 2 Mayor Flaherty read in full a Resolution of Appreciation recognizing Barb Renshaw for her 1 contributions on the Board of Directors for the Spring Lake Park Fire Department. Ms. Renshaw 2 was in attendance and the Council offered her a round of applause. 3 4 Fire Chief Zikmund thanked Ms. Renshaw for the expertise and dedication she brought to the 5 Board of Directors. 6 7 7. COUNCIL BUSINESS 8 A. Resolution 7899, Approving Appointment of Tim Hill to be the Mounds View 9 Representative on the Fire Department Board of Directors. 10 11 City Administrator Ericson recommended the Council appoint Tim Hill to be the Mounds View 12 Representative on the Fire Department Board of Directors. Mr. Hill would be filling the vacant 13 seat left open after Barb Renshaw’s term expired. He explained that Tim Hill was a local 14 business owner, owner of C.G.Hill & Sons, and was interested in serving the City on the Board 15 of Directors. 16 17 Council Member Mueller questioned the length of the term Mr. Hill would be serving. City 18 Administrator Ericson stated the term was three years and no more than two consecutive terms 19 could be served by an individual. 20 21 Mayor Flaherty requested further information on the responsibilities of the members on the 22 Board of Directors. Fire Chief Zikmund explained the Board of Directors oversaw the Spring 23 Lake Park/Blaine/Mounds View Fire Department as this was a non-profit organization. The 24 board members were responsible for attending meetings, taking action on agenda items, handling 25 personnel issues and fiscally overseeing the fire department operations. 26 27 Council Member Stigney questioned the requirements to become a board member. Fire Chief 28 Zikmund stated two board members were elected from within the Fire Department and had to 29 have at least eight years of service. The remaining five members were appointed by each City. 30 He noted Spring Lake Park had one appointment, Mounds View had one appointment and Blaine 31 had three appointments. The qualifications were that the appointment had to be a resident or 32 business owner in the City of Mounds View to ensure the community was being represented. He 33 was very pleased with the makeup of the Board stating there was a wonderful balance. 34 35 Mayor Flaherty stated he knew Tim Hill personally and indicated he was rooted in the 36 community. He felt Mr. Hill would make a great representative for the City of Mounds View on 37 the Fire Department Board of Directors. 38 39 MOTION/SECOND: Mueller/Gunn. To Waive the Reading and Adopt Resolution 7899, 40 Approving Appointment of Tim Hill to be the Mounds View Representative on the Fire 41 Department Board of Directors. 42 43 Council Member Hull requested the date be corrected on the Resolution. 44 45
