2011 ANNUAL REPORT | DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS
PAGE 4
2011 Ford F250 4x4
2011 Street & Utility Improvement Project – Area D
Vehicles and Equipment
As a result of re-evaluating vehicle and equipment needs
and replacement cycles, Public Works replaced some
equipment that had been deferred for several years. Most
notably, a new vactor sewer truck. Other replacements
included a snow plow truck, 4x4 pickup truck (stormwater),
two skid steer upgrades, and a utility locater. New tires
were purchased for the loader to avoid using chains during
snow removal operations, and a used crack filling machine
was purchased from a neighboring city for $4,275 – a
fraction of the $40,000+ cost to purchase new. Upgrades
to the sewer camera were performed and a pole camera
was purchased to quickly view pipe conditions in a safe manner.

Administration/Engineering (A/E)
Like the previous several years, the workload of the A/E
division was very challenging in 2011. In addition to normal
day-to-day duties, the A/E division was responsible to
oversee 39 improvement projects with estimated costs of
$6.5 million as included in the 2011 adopted budget and
Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Although some of the
projects and equipment upgrades were deferred due to
insufficient staffing or other reasons, the three person A/E
staff was extremely busy and committed to doing what was
needed to successfully complete or progress these
projects. The 2011 budget and CIP also had programmed
26 capital equipment upgrades valued at $7.25 million that
the A/E division and maintenance supervisors oversaw.
There were 21 right-of-way permits issued in 2011, along with 9 (each) sewer and water service
repair permits and 4 sewer and 3 water service installation permits. In addition, there were 34
sanitary sewer replacements, 18 driveway widening, and one second-driveway curb cut for private
improvements completed in Area D of the Street and Utility Improvement Program.
Engineering/Architectural Consulting Services
The engineering division contracted and coordinated with the following consultants for indicated
projects and services during 2011:
Consultant Project Phase/Service Est.
