Public Works staff is
involved with project coordination; inspection; reviewing
and approving contract documents; utility locates; providing
record drawings; permitting, coordination with private
utilities; progress meetings; administering the private
improvement program; fabricating mailbox posts and
supplying/marking mailboxes; ordering traffic signs; and
many, many phone calls and correspondences.
Area A construction work was accepted by the City Council
in November and was $339,322 below the contract
amount. Area B/C was also accepted the by Council in
December and was $207,056 below the contract amount,
for a combined $546,378 below contract amounts. Area D
construction costs are also currently tracking $132,577
below the contract amount. In addition, the contract
amounts were much lower than the engineer’s estimates at
the time of bid opening.
Area E is currently out for bid and is on track for a
construction start of early May.

Lambert Park Shelter Demolition and Construction
Lambert Park saw a lot of activity with the demolition of the
old shelter structure and construction of a new modern park
shelter with enhanced features to reduce energy and
maintenance, while making the building space more
appealing to potential rentals. The building was modified
from those at Groveland and Hillview Parks with a picnic
pavilion double in size, an entrance dormer, and nicer
interior amenities. Construction for the project is funded by
the Park Dedication Fund and is estimated to be just under
$343,000. The project is expected to be complete in May
2012, just in time for graduation parties.

80-kW Emergency Generator at City Hall
In 2010, electrical modifications were made to the City Hall
to accommodate emergency generator power supply
during power outages. Those improvements did not
include a power supply for the facility, but rather, would rely
on utilizing the 150-kW mobile generator used for running
the water supply facilities. In early 2011, Public Works staff
found a 10-year old used 80-kW stationary generator for
sale at the State Surplus building that was the right size for
powering City Hall. The generator had about 100 hours run
time, which equated to 1 hour per month (exercising
runtime) with a price tag of $5,000. However, the unit did
need a few accessories, including a fuel tank and shroud.
The 2011 budget included $65,000 for a new unit, but the final
price tag, including a concrete slab and fence enclosure,
was under $25,000.
