Item 07D <br />April 23, 2012, City Council Meeting <br />Page 2 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Staff and the City Council will be discussing the Building Official/Fire Marshal job <br />description, to include possible outsourcing of these duties while the City finds a <br />candidate for the position, at the May Work Session. Attached is a draft of the <br />proposed revisions to the job description. This position may be quite challenging to fill <br />since most Building Officials are not trained or certified as Fire Marshals. It is staff’s <br />recommendation to start the process of advertising immediately to ensure there are no <br />delays in providing building inspection services. <br /> <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> <br />Staff is requesting Council approval of attached Resolution 7931 authorizing the <br />advertisement for the position of Building Official in the Community Development <br />Department. Once a qualified candidate is selected, Staff would seek authorization <br />from the City Council to hire the individual.
