Mounds View City Council April 9, 2012
Regular Meeting Page 10

1
City Administrator Ericson noted the Tri-City Task Force was proposing to meet on April 30th. 2
However, Blaine could not meet on this day and was proposing to meet on May 15th at 7:00 p.m. 3
at Fire Station #3 in Blaine. Blaine and Spring Lake Park could both meet on May 15th. The 4
Council was in favor of the revised date. 5
6
City Administrator Ericson explained the awards presentation to be made at the Town Hall 7
meeting was being moved up on the agenda to assist the Skelly Family. 8
9
City Administrator Ericson stated City Chapter 1008 regarding dynamic display signs was in 10
need of amending. He explained the size of a dynamic sign allowed to be attached to a building 11
would need to be determined. At this point, the code was silent and therefore staff was not 12
allowing dynamic signs to be attached to buildings. 13
14
Council Member Hull questioned why the local business was requesting a dynamic sign. City 15
Administrator Ericson stated the business was restricted from having a monument sign and was 16
seeking a dynamic sign instead. 17
18
Council Member Mueller thanked staff for being proactive on this issue. She stated dynamic 19
display signs were quite costly and suggested that flush mounted signs on a building be allowed, 20
but limited in size. 21
22
Council Member Hull agreed. 23
24
Council Member Stigney stated these signs were not now allowed and recommended this remain. 25
26
Council Member Gunn did not want to see any business limited or not allowed to have a sign if a 27
monument sign was not feasible. 28
29
Mayor Flaherty indicated if a business owner did not have space, he felt the City could consider 30
dynamic display sign being mounted to a building. He suggested this issue be further reviewed. 31
32
City Administrator Ericson questioned if the Council had any agenda items for the work session 33
meeting. He stated there were no items at this time. 34
35
Council Member Stigney suggested the meeting be canceled. 36
37
City Administrator Ericson noted he would consider this option if no items arose between now 38
and the Council’s next meeting. 39
40
C.
