<br />COMMUNITY PROFILE <br />Ramsey County Multijurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan | July 2012 2-41 <br />2.10 Municipalities <br />Arden Hills <br />Arden Hills is located in the northwest corner of Ramsey County <br />and has a total area of 9.6 square miles. The population at the time <br />of the 2010 census was 9,552. There are several college campuses <br />located in the city, including Bethel University, seminary, and a <br />portion of the Northwestern College campus. With a median <br />income of $64,773 and a median family income of $72,236, the <br />economic future of those in Arden Hills is bright. <br />Falcon Heights <br />Flacon Heights, a city as of 1973, is a small suburb of St. Paul. The <br />2010 census states the population at this time is approximately 5, <br />321, with only 2.2 square miles of land. It is home to the Minnesota <br />State Fairgrounds and is also home to the University of Minnesota <br />St. Paul Campus. This is fitting as Falcon Heights is the 65th best <br />educated city in the United States and best educated in Minnesota. <br />Approximately 70 percent of residents have a bachelor’s degree or <br />higher and 38 percent have a graduate or professional degree. <br />Gem Lake <br />The City of Gem Lake is the smallest city in Ramsey County with a <br />population of 393 people and a total area of 1.1 square miles. It was <br />discovered as early as 1843 when French explorer Jean Nicollet <br />drew the first map of the Gem Lake are, titled Bear’s Lake. This <br />land would become the Town of White Bear and more than one <br />hundred years later, the land would become Gem Lake. The city, <br />incorporated in 1959, is located close to both downtown St. Paul <br />and Minneapolis. <br />Lauderdale <br />The City of Lauderdale is surrounded by Minneapolis, St. Paul, <br />Roseville, and Falcon Heights. The total area of the city is only 0.4 <br />square miles but it has a population of 2,364 people. Lauderdale <br />stands out as one of the top 25 retirement suburbs in the country <br />and is also one of two suburbs in the Twin Cities that is adjacent to <br />both St. Paul and Minneapolis. <br /> <br />
