<br />Item No: 08C <br />Meeting Date: March 14, 2011 <br />Type of Business: Consent <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: James Ericson, City Administrator <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 7751 Accepting a Donation from Bethlehem <br />Baptist Church in the Amount of $17,230 and Authorizing <br />Distribution of Funds <br />Introduction: <br /> Bethlehem Baptist Church purchased the building located at 5151 Program Avenue in <br />2004 and received City zoning approval to renovate the former office / warehouse space <br />for church usage. At the same time, the Church expressed its desire to sponsor and <br />support worthy community endeavors and created the Mounds View Service Project Fund <br />pledging annual donations totaling $25,000. They envisioned the fund to be used to help <br />meet certain community needs jointly identified by the city and the Church that would be “in <br />harmony” with their mission and values. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> Representatives from the City, the Community Center and the Park & Rec Commission <br />met with representatives from Bethlehem Baptist Church on February 18, 2011, to discuss <br />potential funding opportunities for the first half 2011 service project fund donation which <br />totaled $17,230. A number of programs and improvements which had been reviewed by <br />the Park and Recreation Commission, Community Center and Staff were highlighted for <br />Bethlehem’s consideration. Subsequent to the meeting, the Church responded with a <br />letter dated February 28, 2011, recommending the following disbursement schedule: <br /> Club Mid $6,000.00 <br />Music in the Park $2,000.00 <br />Festival in the Park $1,000.00 <br />Y-Partners $1,000.00 <br />Edgewood Summer SAIL program $1,000.00 <br />Disc Golf Asphalt Tees $2,000.00 <br />Batting Cage L-Screen $ 858.50 <br />Mobile Dental Clinic $ 500.00 <br />EDA Activities $2,871.50 <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br /> Attached for your consideration is Resolution 7751, a resolution which accepts the <br />donation from Bethlehem Baptist Church in the amount of $17,230 and authorizes the <br />distribution of the donations according to the Church’s recommendations. <br /> <br />Respectfully submitted, <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />________________________ <br />James Ericson <br />City Administrator
