Administrator Report
March 14, 2011
Page 3

3. North Metro Mayors Association Meeting

Wednesday, March 9, I attended a meeting of the North Metro Mayors Association. We
discussed the joint purchasing program and announced that the group had received a bid
for porta potties from “Bixby Portable Toilet Service, Inc”. The rates proposed are
substantially less than what Mounds View pays its current vendor, so we will plan to
transition to the new vendor this spring. We did not observe any savings as a result of the
office supplies contract with S & T, however Mayor Flaherty and I spoke with S & T
representatives who assured us they would work with us on pricing. In response to that,
we are in the process of summarizing our purchases from 2010 and we’ll get the
information to S & T for them to consider. This meeting was intended to feature a number
of state legislators (it was billed as the NMMA Legislative Delegation Meeting) however
earlier in the afternoon; the legislators were called into committee meetings and were
unable to attend. We were however given the opportunity to meet one of the new Met
Council representatives—John Doan, who represents District 10, which Mounds View is in.
I invited Mr. Doan to come to a City Council meeting as a means of introduction to our City
Council members.

4. Ramsey County Meeting With Managers and Administrators

Monday afternoon, I will be meeting with the County Manager Julie Kleinschmidt along with
other managers and administrators in Ramsey County. This is a semi regular meeting
which provides a good opportunity for the County to communicate directly with managers
and administrators in the Ramsey County suburbs. The agenda for the meeting is
attached for your reference. After the meeting, Commissioners Bennett and Ortega will
provide an update on activities associated with the proposed Vikings stadium in Arden
Hills.

5. Meet and Greet for Nathan Garland

The City Council is invited to attend a “meet and greet” with the City’s newest employee,
patrol officer Nathan Garland. The ceremony will take place in the Council chambers and
will culminate with Officer Garland being sworn in.

Respectfully submitted,

_______________________
James Ericson
City Administrator
