<br />RESOLUTION 7821 <br /> <br />CITY OF MOUNDS VIEW <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE CONSTRUCTION OF A <br />VIKINGS STADIUM IN ARDEN HILLS <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Mounds View City Council recognizes the social and economic value of <br />the Minnesota Vikings Football Team to the State of Minnesota; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Mounds View City Council acknowledges the importance of finding a <br />solution to the Vikings' stated interest in developing a new stadium; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, a proposal has been put forth by the Minnesota Vikings and the Ramsey <br />County Board of Commissioners to construct a new stadium in Arden Hills on the site of the <br />former Twin Cities Army Ammunitions Plant (TCAAP); and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, private development and redevelopment of nearby properties, both on the <br />TCAAP site and across the northern suburbs, will generate new jobs and ongoing positive <br />economic impacts for the region; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, much needed transportation infrastructure improvements would be a part of <br />the project; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the redevelopment of the TCAAP site has been an important priority for <br />northern metro communities for decades; and, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, as the local partner, the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners has <br />proposed the imposition of a 0.5% county-wide sales tax increase to help fund the development. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mounds View City Council supports the <br />construction of a new Vikings stadium in Arden Hills. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mounds View City Council <br />encourages the Governor, the Legislature and other interested parties to support this project. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the Mounds View City Council <br />strongly encourages the parties involved to explore and pursue financing options for stadium <br />construction that (1) limits the level of public subsidy and (2) promotes a fair, multi-jurisdictional <br />approach for this state-wide amenity. <br /> <br />Adopted this 12th day of September, 2011. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> _____________________________ <br /> Joe Flaherty, Mayor <br />ATTEST: <br /> <br /> _____________________________ <br />James Ericson, City Administrator <br />(seal)
