<br />Item No: 07C <br />Meeting Date: December 12, 2011 <br />Type of Business: CB <br />Administrator Review : ____ <br />City of Mounds View Staff Report <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />To: Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From: Desaree Crane, Assistant City Administrator <br /> <br />Item Title/Subject: Resolution 7870, Approving a Charitable Gambling Permit <br />for CLIMB Theatre Inc., to Conduct Charitable Gambling at <br />The Mermaid <br /> <br /> <br />Introduction: <br /> <br />CLIMB Theatre Inc. is requesting City Council approval to hold charitable gambling on a <br />permanent basis at The Mermaid. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br />CLIMB Theatre Inc. is a non-profit organization that performs plays in school gyms or in a <br />classroom. CLIMB Theatre Inc. produces original plays and classes for Kindergarten – 12th <br />grade on topics such as: Bulling Prevention, Responsibility, Harassment Prevention, Self- <br />Control, Cyberbullying Prevention, Respect, and Social Skills. <br /> <br />CLIMB Theatre Inc.., submitted all required application materials. However, the <br />organization is not in compliance with Chapter 518 of the City Code. According to Section <br />518.06, subd. 8g: <br /> <br />Subd. 8 The Council shall deny an application for issuance or renewal <br />of a premises permit for any of the following reasons: <br /> <br />g. The applicant’s registered place of business is not <br />within the Trade Area. This requirement may be <br />waived by the Council for good or just cause, at the <br />Council’s sole discretion, if it is in the interest of the <br />Community to do so. <br /> <br />CLIMB, Theatre Inc., is located in Woodbury, and not located in the City’s Trade Area <br />(City, Blaine, Shoreview, Arden Hills, New Brighton, Fridley, and Spring Lake Park). Laurie <br />Gluesing, the Gambling Manager at CLIMB Theatre, Inc., will be asking the City Council to <br />waive this requirement and allow CLIMB Theatre, Inc., to conduct charitable gambling at <br />The Mermaid. <br /> <br />Attached are supporting documents submitted by Ms. Gluesing and Chapter 518 of the City <br />Code for your reference. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
