0 interoffice
MEMORANDUM
to: Pam Sheldon, Community Development Dir.
from: Cathy Bennett, Dir. of Economic Development
subject: EDC Motion on Pedestrian Bridge
date: February 20, 1997
For your information, the Economic Development Commission approved on a 3-1 vote to
support a pedestrian bridge along Highway 10. The motion included the support of the bridge in
anticipation of future mixed use development that would necessitate increased foot traffic across
the highway.
Comments from EDC members were as follows. Cindy Carlson noted that with the
development, now or in the future, of the O'Neil Property and with the possibility of residential
senior development in section 9 there is an increased need to have a link between the north and
south sides of the highway. She noted that this is both an economic need and a safety need. Bev
0 Tarhark noted that the bridge would help with access to the retail centers and increase safety for
both those that are walking and biking across 10. Delane Welsch commented that as a senior it is
virtually impossible for him to cross 10 at the signaled intersection and there are many times he
would like to access the services and amenities across 10 without getting into his car. Rosemary
Goff voted against support of the bridge.
