City of Mounds View Staff Report
February 20, 1997
Page 2
• Natural plantings, wetland and meadow vegetation indigenous to Minnesota, grown on
any occupied lot or parcel of land and maintained as part of a landscape treatment or
garden area approved by the Director of Community Development.
• An area where the land and vegetation appear not to have been graded, landscaped,
mowed or otherwise disturbed by human or mechanical means at any time.
• An area of at least five (5) acres used by an educational institution or public agency for
prairie land restoration, if the prior vegetation is eliminated and the prairie vegetation is
planted through transplanting or seed.
There are a number of areas within the City where tall grasses grow as wetland and native
vegetation. Recognizing that certain undisturbed or natural areas are an aesthetic and ecological
benefit to our environment, the Planning Commission voted unanimously in favor of this Code
amendment by approving Resolution No. 493-97.
Recommendation:
The Planning Commission, by a unanimous vote, and Staff recommend City Council adoption of
Ordinance 594, which relates to exemptions from the noxious weed and tall grass provisions of
the Municipal Code.
•
James Ericson, Planning Associate
cc: Keith King, 8380 Greenwood Drive
