AIRPORT COMM. 612 726 5296 P.07/12 <br /> Anoka County-Blaine Airport <br /> 1 Long-Term Comprehensive Plan Update May 1997 <br /> EXECUTIVE SUMMARY <br /> This Executive Summary provides an overview of the recommended development options for Anoka <br /> County-Blaine Airport.These development options are reported in the Comprehensive Development <br /> Plan Update's technical report. This summary also discusses key community and environmental <br /> impacts. <br /> 1. PROJECT OVERVIEW • <br /> • <br /> The Metropolitan Airports Commission(MAC) initiated a comprehensive planning study to serve <br /> as a framework for future development activity at Anoka County-Blaine Airport. The study <br /> followed guidelines defined by.the Federal Aviation Administration(FAA)and the Metropolitan <br /> Council. An Advisory Committee,made up of representatives from the neighboring cities, airport <br /> businesses, Metropolitan Council, Minnesota Department of Transportation, and MAC, reviewed <br /> the study as it was prepared. <br /> The Airport's last master plan (comprehencive plan) was completed in 1981 Since this time, a <br /> number of conditions have changed on and around the Airport, The Airport's Long-Term <br /> Comprehensive Development Plan Update was divided into four chapters. Key points from these <br /> chapters are summarized below. . <br /> A. Inventory <br /> The Inventory chapter documents the existing conditions and facilities at the Airport. Anoka <br /> County-Blaine Airport currently has a land envelope consisting of approximately 1,900 <br /> acres. The aircraft attire Airport have increased with the addition of hangar facilities. There <br /> were 431 based aircraft reported as of January 1, 1996. As of July 1996, there were 444 <br /> based aircraft at the Airport Over the last seven years, the number of operations has <br /> remained relatively constant,approximately 200,000 annual operations. Prior to the opening <br /> of the ATCT, the number of annual aircraft operations was at the airport's operational <br /> capacity threshold. <br /> • <br /> B. Summary of Aviation Activity <br /> For the nation as a whole,and the Great Lakes Region in particular,general aviation activity <br /> has been declining. The Minneapolis-St Paul area,however,has not followed this trend due <br /> to a robust economic climate and a steady growth in population.
