• Livable Communites Demonstration Account <br /> of the Metropolitan Livable Communities Fund <br /> Summary of Program Purpose, Funding Availabilaity,. <br /> Eligible Applicants and Process <br /> 1997 <br /> PURPOSE: The Metropolitan Livable Communities Act(Minnesota Statutes 473.25) <br /> authorizes the Metropolitan Council to provide funds through the Livable Communities <br /> Demonstration Account for projects that demonstrate creative and innovative models of <br /> compact, efficient development by linking land uses and systems--mixed-use and mixed-income <br /> housing, transit, employment, commercial, community institutions, public spaces. <br /> AMOUNT OF FUNDING: $4.1 million is available in one 1997 funding cycle. The Council is <br /> authorized to award grants or loans. <br /> ELIGIBLE RECIPIENTS: Statutory or home rule charter cities that are participating in the <br /> Local Housing Incentives Program established by the Livable Communities Act, or metropolitan <br /> counties for projects in eligible cities. <br /> • APPLICATION PROCESS: Applicants are required to participate in one of two application <br /> workshops to be held on June 4 and 6, 1997(see flyer). Workshop presenters will review the <br /> objectives of the program and discuss ways to apply the program's objectives and principles to <br /> projects, using examples from the Twin Cities region and other U.S. locations. <br /> PROJECT SUJMMARIES (two pages in length) are due on June 20. Summaries will be <br /> reviewed by the Livable Communities Advisory Committee, staff from the Design Center for <br /> American Urban Landscape, University of Minnesota: and Council staff. Comments will be <br /> forwarded to sponsors to assist them in preparing applications. <br /> APPLICATION DEADLINE The original and two copies of each application are due in the <br /> Metropolitan Council offices (Mears Park Centre, 230 East Fifth Street, St. Paul 55101)by 5:00 <br /> PM on August 8, 1997. <br /> The Livable Communities Advisory Committee will evaluate projects and make funding <br /> recommendations to the Metropolitan Council. The committee has 15 members with expertise in <br /> local and county government, development and redevelopment, urban planning and design, <br /> transportation, finance and lending, and private foundation work. William R. Morrish and staff <br /> of the Design Center for American Urban Landscape.
