MEMO TO: Samantha Orduno, City Administrator
FROM: Michael Ulrich, Director of Public Works
DATE: July 20, 1994
SUBJECT: Squad Car Set Up
As you know this is the first year that Tim Pittman has been
totally responsible for the complete set-up of the new squad cars.
That responsibility alone is one of extreme importance, accompanied
by the addition of a more sophisticated lighting package and the
installation of the Mobil Data Terminals (MDT) . The installation of
these units was complicated this year because of the passenger side
air bag that the car is equipped with. The police department had
researched different mounting hardware for the MDT's, and found one
to everyone's liking. The problem was that the mounting hardware
cost $600, and was not available for 6 weeks. By observing the
desired MDT mounts, Tim was able to manufacture brackets very
similar to those requested, and in fact may have worked better.
This enabled the installation of all the equipment into the squad
cars to be completed at one time. Tim received some assistance in
the set-up from Officer Bamgart. Tom was very helpful, especially
with the new lighting package.
For the first time since my arrival with the City of Mounds,
the mechanic has received an unanimous approval from the entire
Police Department on the set-up of new squad cars. This was
possible only because of Tim's skills, knowledge, and workmanship.
The effort that Tim consistently places on achieving perfection,
has made these conversions a very productive project.
cc: Tim Pittman
Personnel File
