Explanation/Summary (attach supplement sheets as necessary.) SUMMARY; Staff visited the City of Mendota Heights last year during their....slurry sealing project to view arevaluate this method of pavement maintenance. Although slurry sealing has been available for many years in other parts of the country, it had not been perfected in the upper midwest, therefor it's popularity was relatively unknown. The City of Mendota Heights has been using this method for the past 5 years. The Anoka - Blaine airport has also used slurry sealing in the past. Many Wisconsin municipalities are applying slurry seals and the City of Fridley has also bid a project this year. Since Mounds View's quantities and specs are very close to the City of Mendota Heights, :staff is recommending the acceptance of their bid and advertisement. This procedure is very similar to purchasing from the state bid, county bid, or a joint purchasing agreement. This bid will include notification to the residents, all materials and labor, and sweeping of the streets, ( staff will sweep the gutter lines to pick up the debris to avoid it being swept into the residents yards ) . As mentioned in the last issue of this is it, there is no rock applied to the surface, it is mixed in with the asphalt and then applied. This method also levels minor deflections in the pavement and adds a minimal amount of strength. The skid resistance is restored to the surface and the road looks new. Staff will provide a sample for Council to view at the work session. This years contract is for 41,000 square yards. The bid price for this project is $.92 per square yard, or $37,720.00 . Staff request Council approval of this project and bid.
