1995 PROGRAM/PERFORMANCE BUDGET
DIVISION WATER PROGRAM INFRASTRUCTURE & EQ. MAINTENANCE
FUNDING SOURCE WATER
................................................................... ..... ...........
........................................................ ...... ... . . ...........
PROGRAM PURPOSE To operate and maintain the divisions capital assets, performing scheduled
preventative maintenance to ensure longevity for all equipment and
structures.
PROGRAM..SUMMARY Preventative and routine maintenance activities within the division include
hydrant servicing and pumping, yearly or scheduled well pump inspection,
building maintenance, meter repair, testing, installation and reading, locations
of underground services and water mains. The division operates two (2)utility trucks, a loader, backhoe and a dump
truck, (the heavy equipment is jointly purchased and maintained by the Streets and Sewer divisions). This equipment
is maintained by the operators within their abilities. Specialized repairs will be performed by the City's mechanic
or contracted to the respected dealer. Capital requests for this program are well pump inspection ($ 15,000), a
dewatering system ($3,000), replacement of the current backhoe (30,666), upgrading the skidloader ($500), office
furniture ($1,350), and water meters ($7,000). An addition to this years budget is the Water Division's share of
insurance ($17,816).
•
1995 PROGRAM OBJECTIVES Some of the goals of this program are to flush hydrants in the
spring after sweeping operations are completed. Inspection of well
pumps are made periodically depending on a combination of many
factors. They may be hours in service, millions of gallons pumped, amount of drawdown, which could indicate less
pump efficiency, and pumping velocity in gallons per minute. Structures such as pump houses, treatment plant
buildings, are maintained and repaired as needed and the resivior and tower are inspected approximately every ten
(10) years. This inspection is to perform preventative maintenance of smaller magnitude versus intensive structural
repairs and painting. Providing training for equipment operators, enabling them to operate in a safe and proficient
manner is also an important goal of this program. Maintaining capital equipment to provide for reliability and
longevity is achieved through daily inspections, innovated maintenance methods, and operator ownership and pride.
1995 PROGRAM PERFORMANCE MEASURES
1. Repair damaged hydrants within one (1) week of notification.
2. Flush hydrants after completion of street sweeping.
3. Inspect well pumps as scheduled:
4. Comply with One-Call location guidelines.
5. Purchase quality vehicles and equipment ensuring the best long term investment.
