1995 PROGRAM/PERFORMANCE BUDGET <br /> DEPARTMENT Parks, Recreation & Forestry PROGRAM Swimming Recreation Activities <br /> FUNDING SOURCE Participant Fees <br /> The primary purpose of this program is to teach children to swim <br /> PROGRAM PURPOSE and advance their swimming skills, and learn safety practices of <br /> water activities. Another purpose is to provide opportunities for <br /> the general public to use and enjoy the pool at Edgewood School <br /> including participation in lessons, open swims and pool parties. <br /> The school district offers the non-school hours of the pool to be <br /> PROGRAM SUMMARY scheduled managed by the various cities' recreation department. <br /> Edgewood School pool is basically under our scheduling control <br /> from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Saturdays during the school year <br /> and all hours of the day Mondays through Fridays during June and July. The school district does not <br /> require the cities to contribute to the operational charges of the pool, which is quite extensive. <br /> The use of the pool is a very fortunate and appreciated. Swimming is a very important skill for <br /> children to learn because of the enjoyment derived during a lifetime and also for safety practices <br /> especially since Minnesota leisure activity often includes activity in the water resources either pools, <br /> lakes, or rivers. <br /> The objective of the program is to teach children to <br /> 1995 PROGRAM OBJECTIVES swimm at an early age so that they will be able to be <br /> safety conscious around water and for a lifetime of <br /> swimming enjoyment. Program fees include the costs of <br /> instructors, swimming equipment needs and a portion of the Program Supervisor's salary. Because of <br /> the desire for every child to learn to swim, the City strives to keep participant fees a reasonable as <br /> possible. <br /> 1. Increase the marketing for open swims, pool <br /> 1995 PROGRAM PERFORMANCE MEASURES parties and other swimming events for <br /> increased recreational swimming activities in an <br /> effort to make the greatest use of this facility. <br /> 2. Increase the numbers of swimming lesson participants. <br />
