• A small work station for the check signer/protector is proposed at an estimated cost of <br />WO, $250. <br />• Various software packages enhance productivity of the Department and also improve <br />output of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and the Budget Book. These <br />packages are for graphics and presentations. In addition, upgrades of the departments <br />existing software are periodically announced. Estimated cost: $1,000. <br />• Two bookcases for the Utility Accountant's work station are proposed for storage of <br />computer printouts and other materials. Estimated cost: $430. <br />• The typewriter used by the Utility Accountant for various invoices and forms is in <br />excess of fifteen years old. A replacement is proposed. Estimated cost: $699. <br />1996 <br />• The average life of a computer system is three to five years. The computer system <br />which performs all of the City's accounting functions was purchased in 1989. <br />Therefore, staff proposes the purchase of a new computer system in 1995. <br />Computoservice, Inc., the firm that our accounting software is licensed from, has <br />proposed an IBM RS6000 system. Processing benchmarks on the utility billing system <br />indicate that the new system will process bills fifteen(15), times faster than our present <br />system. The estimated cost is $25,000. It is proposed that the cost be shared by the <br />General(40%), Water(20%), Sewer(20%), Street Light(10%), and Surface Water(10%) <br />funds. <br />• Replacement of an existing high speed printer, used for production of utility bills is <br />proposed for 1997. Estimated cost: $2,895. <br />• Replacement of the Utility Accountant's computer is proposed. Estimated cost: <br />$2,600. <br />1997 <br />• Replacement of an existing high speed printer, used for production of accounts payable <br />checks and financial reports is proposed for 1997. Estimated cost $3,099. <br />• Replacement of the Finance Directofs computer is proposed. Estimated cost: $2,700. <br />28 <br />
