UNAPPROVED <br /> 1 Mounds View City Council Page Seventeen <br /> 2 Regular Meeting July 25, 1994 <br /> 3 <br /> 4 - <br /> 5 Linke stated he will go with what is being said realizing that <br /> 6 neighborhoods turnover and persons may buy a particular home because <br /> 7 there is a park nearby, but in this area there will be no park. <br /> 8 <br /> 9 Councilmember Trude stated that in her area people take pride in the <br /> 10 parks and make them beautiful. People adopt the parks and call them <br /> 11 neighborhood parks and identify their neighborhoods with a park. In <br /> 12 Minneapolis people are drawn into the community by the parks situation. <br /> 13 Trude stated that this property could be made into a housing development <br /> 14 and this vacant land cannot be controlled if it isn't owned by you. <br /> 15 <br /> 16 Councilmember Blanchard stated that she believes that this is an <br /> 17 opportunity that shouldn't be passed up for the entire community. <br /> 18 <br /> 19 Councilmember Trude stated that she needs more discussion. <br /> 20 <br /> 21 Councilmember Wuori stated that Trude reminded her well with <br /> 22 her comments on the problems that we are seeing today with the <br /> 23 kids. Mr. Frits made comments that there are a lot of good kids out <br /> 24 there and there are a lot of troubled kids out thee and putting in a park <br /> 25 and providing services to show them how to get along, act with others, <br /> 26 and provide programs for the future of the children in the community. <br /> 27 <br /> 28 Councilmember Trude stated it is a neighborhood park and if the neighbor- <br /> 29 hood is not going to support it why put it in. Trude stated there is <br /> 30 a lot of turnover in that area. Most kids are in day care and the day <br /> 31 care kids are using the parks and the children that are home alone after <br /> 32 school. <br /> 33 <br /> 34 Mayor Linke will vote against this resolution because of the NIMBY <br /> 35 situation but hopes that the resolution does pass. <br /> 36 <br /> 37 Councilmember Trude stated that she concurs with Mayor Linke's <br /> 38 comments. <br /> 39 <br /> 40 VOTE: 2 ayes 2 nays Motion Failed <br /> 41 <br /> 42 Mayor Linke stated that he hopes those in that area will not use <br /> 43 the other parks. <br /> 44 <br /> 45 <br /> 46 COUNCIL BUSINESS: <br /> 47 <br /> 48 There were no Consent Agenda items brought forward. <br /> 49 <br /> 50 A. Consideration of Action on Ordinance No. 544 Amending EDA By Laws <br /> 51 <br /> 52 Samantha Orduno, City Administrator, stated that this ordinance <br /> 53 would amend the EDA Bylaws by designating a regular monthly meeting <br /> 54 of the EDA immediately following the Council meetings on the 2nd <br />
