Explanation/Summary (attach supplement sheets as necessary.) 'SUMMARY: For several years, at the request of residents who are leaving the city for the winter, the City has turned off the resident's water. This is represents an economical savings as well as a safety measure against faulty facets or pipes. Recently, a resident requested that notification of this service be placed in the City newsletter so that more people may taken advantage of the service. At the present time, there is no charge for this service. However, the procedure does involve staff and equipment time both to turn off and ; turn back on the water service. It is a relatively simple procedure for the Public Works crew if the location of the shut-off valve is known to the workers. However, if more residents request the service, the costs of providing the service escalate. Since it is the policy of the City to equate service to cost, the Public Works Director has determined the costs involved in providing this service. The cost is nominal and the savings in dollars and security is far mor than $25. Staff is presenting this issue to the Council for consideration. If approved, the fee would be added to the City's Permit and Fee Schedule.
