Agenda Section: 11.D
IlUgilli)iREQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION Report Number: 94-1414C
STAFF REPORT Report Date: 12-14-94_ _
orw Council Action:
U Special Order of Business
CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATEDecember 14, 1994 LI Public Hearings
Li Consent Agenda
LX Council Business
Item Description:
Consideration for the Purchase of a New Fuel Pump •
Administrator's Review/Recommendation: -
No comments to supplement this report .
- Comments attached.
Explanation/Summary (attach supplement c s as necessary.)
S-UMMAR:Y-; - -- -- -
The present diesel pump at the Public Works Facility has had repairs
performed on it numerous times in the past years . Most recently the vent
assemble has malfunctioned. When this happens, fuel will spill out of the
vent pipe onto the ground. This obviously is not an acceptable situation.
In recent months of cold weather, there has been instances when the pump
won' t shut off when tanks are full and the automatic nozzle has been
activated. Both of these situations can potentially cause great safety
hazards, for operators, equipment, and the environment .
Staff purchased this fuel pump used when the diesel tank was installed
about five years ago. At the time it was a good pump, and as expected with
any piece of equipment, it will require periodic maintenance and repairs .
This pump has fulfilled it' s useful life expectancy and it is no longer
feasible to continue to repair. Staff did not foresee this occurring,
because of the good performance of the pump -for the past year.
Staff request Council authorization to purchase a new diesel pump. The fuel
accounts in Water, Wastewater and the Garage have sufficient funds
remaining in them to purchase this equipment .
Staff has received quotes for a new pump, and they are as follows :
Minnesota Petroleum Equipment $1, 995
Pump and Meter Supply $2, 290
Staff recommends the award to Mn. Petroleum Equipment for $1, 995 to be
funded from the following fuel accounts, Water - 700-4121-170, Wasterwater
730-4121-170, and Garage - 100-4260-170 .
 7 __(://4.-
C / C ,
Michael Ulrich, Director of Public Works
RECOMMENDATION;
Council award the purchase of a new diesel pump to Mn.
