FAST grant. Under this grant the federal government will
provide up to 75 % of an officers salary for a period of three
years. This officer would work solely on community
oriented policing programs. Programs such as block watch,
operation I.D, business security and multi-housing
associations would be expanded.
In 1995, all squads were equipped and are utilizing mobile
data terminals. Increase cost will be realized with the use
of this equipment. New technology and officer safety
should be considered to upgrade squad cars with safety
back seats and video cameras. Our current computer
system has been in place since 1986. Updates to
hardware and software of this system should be
anticipated.
The police station was expanded and remodeled in 1995.
Some new furniture, work stations and computers were
purchased and installed. We will continue to upgrade
equipment, furniture, and add a video security system to
improve efficiency and to keep up with technology.
With an increase in population and a commercial and
business district rapidly growing, police activity is
increasing. Cutbacks in police services may be realized if
revenues remain constant. Services such as unlocking car
' doors, property damage accidents, and vacation house
checks may be in jeopardy unless additional resources are
found. It will be the Police Department's goal to maintain
police services within the resources available.
Police Departments in Ramsey County are and will continue
ue
to discuss and study the possibilities of consolidation of
services. Discussions will continue with the school district
