■ ■ ■ ■
THlS IS
For the Week of July 17, 1995 - July 21 , 1995
ADMINISTRATION
ADMINISTRATION
You asked for a light Agenda and wha la, you have it! Until yesterday (Tuesday), we
did not have any items, but the selection of a new Council meeting recorder and the
proposed nomination of Jennifer Bergman to the Met. Council's new Livable
Committee changed everything.
**********************
As the Agenda reflects, I am proposing the City hire a new Council meeting recorder.
Judy, who had been with the company we had contracted with to do our meetings is
no longer with the company and the expiration of the contract provided an
opportunity to find an alternative to the costly contract service.
A recording secretary for several boards and commissions for the City of Fridley
responded to the ad. She has also worked for the City of Columbia Heights and had
high praise from her references.
She has agreed to the position at an hourly pay of $10.50/hour. Because she is not a
designated private contractor, she must be hired as a temporary, part-time employee
and the City must pay worker's compensation tax. The tax raises the per hour fee to
• $11.35. Past costs for meeting minutes indicated the average meeting time at 3 hours
and the average cost $265 ($21/hr. for the meeting and $9/pg.) The proposed hiring
of the new recorder will reduce costs significantly. If a meeting lasts for 3 hours and it
takes 6 hours to prepare the minutes, the cost is $68.10, an average savings of $197!
*****************************
