Results to Date <br /> The community brainstorming meetings generated an extensive list of responses about perceived <br /> community strengths and needs, ideas and values regarding re-use of the Arsenal, and how this <br /> citizen input should be used in the planning process. The entire list of responses from the <br /> meetings to date, verbatim, is attached as an appendix to this document. Several themes emerged <br /> clearly in the responses and are detailed below. <br /> Open Space <br /> -At least some open space should be preserved at TCAAP <br /> -Open space should be designated for public use and enjoyment <br /> -Natural amenities of the cite should be preserved <br /> -Re-use should be consistent with natural features of the site <br /> -Recreational opportunities should be developed, for all ages <br /> Diversity <br /> -Greater diversity is needed in our communities <br /> -Diversity includes race, income, age, and culture <br /> -Diversity of housing and job options are ways to promote greater <br /> diversity <br /> Transportation <br /> -Better public transportation is needed <br /> -Land use planning and urban design should pursue reduction of <br /> automobile dependency, encouragement of alternative forms of <br /> transportation such as biking and walking, and accommodate public <br /> transit. Examples are mixed use development, higher density <br /> development, <br /> services and businesses close to transit hubs,pedestrian-friendly <br /> downtown area, biking trails, and sidewalks. <br /> -A Light Rail Transit hub could be developed on the site <br /> Community <br /> -A greater sense of community identity is needed <br /> -More opportunities are needed for citizens to contribute to their <br /> communities in meaningful ways <br /> -Better government responsiveness to citizen concerns and greater <br /> receptivity to citizen input are needed <br /> -Community gathering places should be created, such as a community <br /> center, convention center to hold high school graduations locally, and a <br /> "real"downtown <br /> 2 <br />
