CTY®Fr
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION Agenda Section: 18.
! S
STAFF REPORT Report Number: 95-1480WS
V
AGENDA SESSION DATE October 2. 1995
Report Date: , , 95
DISPOSITION
Item Description:
Discussion of Possible Innovative Grant Projects
Administrator's Review/Recommendation:
- No comments to supplement this report
- Comments attached.
Explanation/Summary (attach supplement-sheets-aa-necessar30
,SUMMARY;
The State Board of Innovation will be considering grant applications
soon from government entities who wish to receive State funding to
explore creative, cooperative or collaborative service delivery and
economic development efforts.
The grant information and application is attached for your review. The
Council may want to brainstorm a bit Monday night about possible
projects that would qualify for grant funding.
There are two possible projects that may be worth exploring:
1. Consolidation of police services of the cities of Blaine,
Spring Lake Park and Mounds View.
2. A coordinated economic redevelopment approach to the Highway
10 corridor by the cities of Arden Hills, Mounds View and
Spring Lake Park.
The first project represents a "window of opportunity" due to the
retirement of all three Police Chiefs and top personnel in the three
cities in the next 2-3 years. Consolidating the police service would
allow for greater patrol efforts and specialization of crime prevention
and investigative efforts that are not possible now in the three
separate units.
A sidebar to this possible project may be to examine the process by
which Mounds View would annex to Anoka County.
J
Samantha OrdunoCity A•ministrator
RECOMMENDATION•
