The file server is the computer that interfaces with all <br /> networked computers and stores data and backed up files. <br /> Dave Johnson, the City's computer consultant has developed the criteria for <br /> the machine that will best met the needs of the City. Further discussions <br /> with Dave and the FreeNet consultant have concluded that the City should <br /> upgrade to a 75 megahertz Pentium processor and 2 gig hard drives. The cost <br /> of these two items will add approximately $500-600 to the quotes listed on <br /> the attached memo from Jim Hess. <br /> Staff will be bringing in the final quotes to the November 13 meeting for <br /> your consideration. The cost will not exceed the budgeted amount. <br /> Software Upgrades <br /> Earlier this year, I appointed an MIS (Management Information Services) <br /> Committee to research the City's current, future and on-going computer and <br /> communication needs. The committee was directed to determine a uniform <br /> standard for all hardware and software applications. They are in the <br /> process of determining the standard for our hardware applications. They <br /> have completed the standard for the word processing and spreadsheet <br /> applications and are formulating the recommendation for presentation at <br /> Monday night's meeting. <br /> I will be sharing their recommendation with you at the meeting. <br /> i <br /> Sama tha Or no, Ci y Administrator <br /> RECOMMENDATION: <br />
