Your involvement
plays a critical role in helping NSP better serve all customers.
As you know, the relatively hot summer we had this year created the need to enact four
control days on Thursday, June 22, and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, July 12, 13 and
14. The control request was called for both even and odd calendar day customers to
participate on July 13 and 14.
While we make every effort to follow the even/odd calendar-day guidelines and avoid back-to-
back interruptions, the weather across the region produced heat indices that surpassed
records set In. 1988. This required more from our system —and our interruptible customers --
than ever before. On Thursday, July 13, NSP reached an all time system peak of 7,558
Megawatts, a 9 percent increase over our previous peak, so you can see how vital your
participation was and will continue to be.
Over the last several seasons, we've enjoyed abnormally cool weather and only one control
period since the end of August, 1991, However, we recognize that three days of back-to-
back Interruption can be a strain on you day-to-day activities. Your participation, though,
should help your bottom line. You're seeing annual rate savings. (See page 2 for savings
over the General Rate ), In addition, your continued participation in a peak-controlled program
means NSP can defer building expensive new generating capacity, avoid purchasing
emergency power from neighboring utilities at times when It is most expensive and reduce
power plant emissions. The result is lower rates and cleaner air for us all.
You're important to us. So when you have questions or concerns, don't hesitate to call on
me, your NSP account rep, at 779-3177, We're working hard to earn your business every
day.
Sincerely,
Barb.Biren
Electric Sales Representative
