cm® REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION Agenda Section: 8.
STAFF REPORT Report Number: 95-1504WS
1111706
 AGENDA SESSION DATE November 6. 1995 Report Date: 11 2-95
DISPOSITION
Item Description: Discussion of Banners in Mounds View
Administrator's Review/Recommendation:
- No comments to supplement this repor
- Comments attached.
Explanation/Summary (attach supplement sheets as necessary.)
PIZMMARY;
In light of the fact that MnDot will not allow the City to hang banners at intersections on the light
poles, I have been focusing my attention at the other areas in the City namely County Road I and
Edgewood. I met with Ramsey County and they also will not allow us to hang banners at the signal
light intersection. They do not have any problem with the banners being hung from the other
street light locations along County Road I. Ramsey County did advise me to contact NSP due to
the fact that utilities are involved and we would need clearance from them so that the banners do
not interfere with the access to utility boxes, etc. I contacted NSP and at this point they see no
issue with having the banners on the utility poles on County Road I. Just to make sure, I will be
meeting with the technical representative the second week in November to confirm which poles the
banners will be on and then they will write a memo authorizing the banners.
There are 6-8 locations on County Road I for the banners. In addition we could hang 2-3 on
Edgewood as an entrance to City Hall, 2 in City Hall parking lot and 2 at the Bridges for a total of
12 banners. I have attached a new quote for 12 banners which is a slight increase in cost per
banner due to the reduction in the quantity.
If we gain approval from NSP, I would like the EDA's approval to order the banners for display in
the locations noted above so that they can be hung before the snow flies.
Since there is a budget of approximately $4,000 for this project would could also order some
holiday banners to hang through January. My only concern regarding this is the change would
need to be made in the cold winter months. In any case it is an idea.
oar
Cathy B:1 .tt, Economic Development Coordinator
RECOMMENDATION;
