C
CALL TO
ORDER: Chair Burmeister called the meeting to order.
ROLL CALL: Commissioners present included Chair Burmeister,
Commissioners Long, Silvis, Starr, and Dentz .
Commissioner Stevenson was absent.
MINUTES : Commissioner Silvis made a motion seconded by
Commissioner Dentz to approve the minutes of
August 24, 1995. Motion passed unanimously.
PARK
IMPROVEMENTS : Staff reviewed the report outlining park suggested
park improvements which dealt with safety issues
in the parks, especially athletic field fencing.
Commissioners discussed the improvements and
requested that information regarding cost
estimates be completed and reported at a future
meeting.
WOODCREST
PARK OPTIONS: Staff reviewed the idea of community gardens,
located at Woodcrest Park and asked Commissioners
if they were interested in pursuing this option
for leisure uses of Woodcrest Park. The
Commission discussed pros and cons of this use,
but decided that it is probably the only use that
would be low-cost. Community gardens would
provide a more passive and natural use of the
park. The park is well-suited for this type of
activity with available water and sufficient soils
and space and parking. The only potential problem
would be the likelihood that vandalism of gardens
may occur. The Commission wishes to pursue this
use for Woodcrest Park in 1996 .
UPDATES: Staff reviewed information on activities of the
department including park maintenance and project
activities, the Community Bonfire activity, and .
golf course activities.
PEDESTRIAN
BRIDGE: Commission members inquired as to the status of
the pedestrian bridge. Staff indicated that the
issue was still before the City Council . The
issue will be on the agenda of the next City
