schedules were a bit sporadic. During this week of May 27 we have a full crew
of seasonals excluding Bill Urbanski who finishes his teaching responsibilities
the second week of June.
The new mowers have been working great! The new parks truck has been
delivered. It must be retrofitted for propane gas, installation of tool cabinets,
lights, and radio and side door printing.
* Steve Dazenski met with the Community Orientated Policing group discussing
graffiti - the problems, solutions, etc.
* We received complaints of baseballs hitting the siding and roofs at Silver Lake
Woods Townhomes this week. It occurred during the later afternoon Tuesday
and Wednesday. The police went to the field but the team had left. There
were no permits issued for baseball teams at Silver View. We do have a
suspicion of who the coach is - staff has had altercations with this individual
before. Staff has asked this person to refrain from conducting hitting practice
at this field because it is too small for this age baseball player. Parks crew
workers have been at Silver View fields mowing - and has asked the team to
clear the field so that it can be mowed - they refuse to leave the field. They
are an ornery bunch. I have instructed the crew to go ahead and mow - the
team has the option of moving to the other field - but they don't. This is the
same team that hits into the backstop and curls the fencing material. They are
a renegade team that are affiliated with an unknown travelling program that
does not have affiliation in Mounds View, neither LLLL nor MVAA nor Babe
Ruth Association. This team is posing problems.
* Jeff was called to Jury Duty the week of May 17. Luckily he was not called
for a long extended times.
RECREATION:
* Mary and Brad and Steve enjoyed a well -deserved extended Memorial
weekend. All have been working long hours, weekends and evening
commencing programs and preparing parks. Mary enjoyed a visit to Chicago,
Brad went home to Beloit, Wisconsin and Steve hosted a large group of family
and friends at his lake place near Alexandria.
* Youth Athletic team pictures and individual player pictures were taken this
week at City Hall. This is always a testy time because everyone is always in a
hurry, and the photographer never seems to be in a hurry - opting for the
perfect picture. People really like the pictures. We have received many
compliments regarding this service. Picture nights are not one of staff's
favorite times juggling between hurrying the photographer and calming
impatient parents and quieting wild children. But, picture nights are just about
over, thank goodness!
