flY OF
1110iJNOS
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
STAFF REPORT
AGENDA SESSION DATE April 3, 1995
Agenda Section: 12.
Report Number: 95-1290C
Report Date: 3-29-95
DISPOSITION
Item Description: Discussion of Safety of Airport Drive and County Road J
Administrator's Review/Recommendation:
- No comments to supplement this report
- Comments attached. -- - - -
Explanation/Summary (attach supplement shee . - : necessary.)
UMMARY;
Councilmember Trude requested that staff research the feasibility of removing a portion of the
noise barrier at the intersection of County Road J and Airport Drive to increase the visibility and
safety of this intersection.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MNI IT) was contacted to determine the
procedure for this removal if the Council desired. The attached letter from MNDOT addresses
this request, indicating the City can remove up to two sections of the barrier at City expense
with prior consultation with MNDOT Maintenance.
Public Works Director Mike Ulrich has been asked to calculate an estimated cost for this removal
if it were completed in-house. He will be present at Monday's meeting with this information.
Also, the Police Chief is contacting the Blaine Police Department to help determine the number
of accidents that have occurred at the intersection since 1 /1 /94. This information will also be
available at Monday's meeting.
Tim Cruikshank, Asst. To City Admin.
RECOMMENDATION;
