PARKS, RECREATION AND FORESTRY
PARKS:
• Steve has been on vacation this week, travelling to Texas for sun and fun -
hopefully having a great time!
* The large mower was delivered this week, other equipment to come soon.
• Jeff-has-been-working-on-staining shelving at-the-various-park-buildings-and
performing daily park tasks including trash removal, litter control, park
inspections, etc.
• Jeff is the designated "window treatment installer" and has installed mini
blinds in the Council Chambers and Police Department this week.
RECREATION:
* Mary attended the State Aquatics Institute with the topic of Enhancing
Aquatic Facilities for Revenue Generation . . . specifically with Lakeside Park
in mind. Information is being gathered and researched in the feasibility of a
water slide at Lakeside Park. Much information was gleaned and many cities
were represented who offered information regarding waterslides.
The national trend is "leisure pool" facilities offering zero depth - or shallow
water. South St. Paul is in the process of selecting a construction company
to build their "leisure pool" facility. Many community centers are providing
leisure pool facilities. Although these have been indoor leisure pool facilities
(which are quite profitable) it has been indicated that outdoor leisure pool
facilities are much more profitable because there is no need for the
enveloping building structure.
Both Anoka and Ramsey Counties were present at the Institute looking into
this trendy revenue producing recreational facility. Anoka County is thinking
of adding a leisure pool facility to their wave pool. Ramsey County is
interesting in pursuing a leisure pool concept at the Battle Creek Park area.
Lakeside Park has the facilities for a great beach and leisure water facility.
Staff is gathering information for the feasibility of a water slide - as an
attraction and revenue generator.
* Staff has been working on recreation publicity, mailings, registration,
telephone calls, etc. and we have been very busy.
