CM
OF REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION Agenda Section: 11.
111176
STAFF REPORT Report Number: 9 5-1 2 R9C
AGENDA SESSION DATE April 3, 1995 Report Date: 3-29-95
DISPOSITION
Item Description: Update on Employee Insurance Alternatives
Administrator's Review/Recommendation: :-`"
- No comments to supplement this report ►1 ?
- Comments attached.
Explanation/Summary (attach supplement s1i ets"as necessary.)
At the March, 1995 Council Worksession, staff presented Council with information on an
alternative plan for employee health, dental and life insurance coverage. The information
included a comparison of the benefits City employees currently receive to a new plan called
Public Employees Insurance Program (PEIP), and a breakdown of the new rates and resulting
cost savings that would be realized by the City and employees with dependent coverage.
Since then, detailed information and presentations were given to all City employees informing
them of the implications of changing insurance providers.
After presenting all of the information to City employees and listening to comments about the
options, the scenario that would offer the greatest benefit to all is to change health care groups
from LOGIS to PEIP, stay with the existing dental arrangement, which is to continue to contract
directly with HealthPartners and to contract directly with Commercial Life, our current provider,
for life insurance.
A meeting is scheduled for April 5 to begin enrolling employees in the new health insurance plan
which would be effective May 1, 1995.
This staff report is provided as an update to this item.
400019)41
Tim Cruikshank, Asst. To City Admin.
RECOMMENDATION;
