-2-
I have provided below a quote from Minnesota Statutes,
205 . 13 , Subdivision 3 relating to filing fees .
See Minnesota Statutes , 205 . 13, Subdivision 3 :
"Unless the Charter of a City provides the amount
of the fee for filing an application or affidavit of
candidacy for city office, the filing fee for a
municipal office is as follows :
(b) In second and third class cities; $5 . . . "
NOTE : It appeared to me that from the answers I
received from the other cities , most cities followed
statutory requirements for fees .
COSTS AND DUTIES RELATING TO CANDIDACY FILING
▪ Filing (notarize signature ) - 2 week period of time
▪ Put packet together (budget, forms , sign
information)
• Make packets of regular meetings available
(agendas )
▪ When filing closes provide the County with the
candidates ' name
▪ Answer general policy questions and pass requests
on to City Administrator
▪ Respond to complaints on sign locations
It is my estimation that there is a cost of $150 to
$200 spent per candidate with regards to their filing
for City election depending upon how much information
is provided to each candidate.
