Adoption of a Resolution is also
necessary for the grant application.
This grant requests 50% matching funds for soil sur-charging (compaction
of soils to alleviate movement) , installation of a multi-purpose
playfield after compaction is completed (approximately one year) , paving
the parking lot and improvements to the park building including
installation of a new furnace.
If the grant were awarded the work would begin August, 1995 and conclude
November, 1996. This means that the matching funds of approximately
$38, 500 could be paid over a two year timespan or approximately $19,250
each year. Currently $32, 045 is the balance of the Park Improvement
Fund, with an additional $12 ,500 to be received in both 1995 and 1996 as
part of the Everest Development Park Dedication fees. There is
sufficient funds in the Park Improvement Fund for the City's 50% match
if the grant is awarded.
This project has been listed on the Parks and Recreation Commissioners
Workplan as a result of requests from residents of the neighborhood and
by those who opposed the development of a new park - favoring instead
the improvement of Woodcrest Park.
The grant application will be provided in the April 24, 1995 City
Council packet for your review.
Mary Saari , •irector of Parks, Recreation and Forestry
R.FCOMMENDATION:
